help with problem " forrtl: severe (29): file not found, unit 8"

#1 Post by cougarnie » Thu Apr 22, 2010 4:07 pm

Dear all,

The compute I am using is a server with two quad core CPUs and the OS is ubuntu server. VASP version 4.6 and 5.2.

There is no problem when I run small calculations(half day work). When I try to run a large (2x2x1) supercell (16 atoms in total) with a 8x8x10 or larger kpoint mesh, it works at the beginning and give reasonable reults, but it stops in the middle. The error message is "orrtl: No such file or directory forrtl: severe (29): file not found, unit 8 ".

I don't understand why it suddenly can't find the OUTCAR file after it wrote it for quite some times.

Very frustrating, can anyone help me out? Thank you very much.

No. The file is still there. This problem happens all the time when I run a relative large calculation.

Hi there! I am also encountering the same problem. I am calculating using a cluster and my system is quite big. It runs a few electronic steps then stop because of this error:
forrtl: No such file or directory
forrtl: severe (29): file not found, unit 8, file /home03s/elvis/CO-lit-Pbterm-bridge/pbterm-bridge-d5.0/OUTCAR
