Does the energy include the vdW correction energy?

Problems running VASP: crashes, internal errors, "wrong" results.

Does the energy include the vdW correction energy?

#1 Post by mcandg03 » Wed Nov 09, 2011 9:47 pm

hi all,
I am working on a adsorption process using the vdW-DF, i set the right parameters as the VASP guide recommanded. One question is confused me. Does the energy include the vdW correction energy or not in the outcar file? I noticed that the vdW correction is printed in the log file like this "Total vdW correction in eV 121.8599 ". if the energ from OUTCAR file doesn't include the vdW correction, the total energy is enegy form OUTCAR plus vdW correction. Do i think so?

thanks,

Wang

The vdW correction is included in the total energy printed out by OUTCAR. You can check this by switching off the vdW calculation by setting LUSE_VDW=.FALSE., the energy in OUTCAR and OSZICAR will differ by the vdW correction from the LUSE_VDW=.TRUE. case.
